As the autumn air crisps and the nights grow longer, Fauquier County Parks and Recreation is offering an intriguing way to explore local heritage. Led by seasoned investigators Kristie Parker and Dale Lowery, the Fall 2026 Historical & Paranormal Investigations The series takes participants behind the scenes of some of Warrenton’s most storied properties.

October & November Paranormal Investigations

While the series kicks off in late September, several fascinating investigations are lined up starting in October:

1. John Marshall Building

When: Saturday, October 10, 2026 | 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Where: 32 Waterloo Street, Warrenton, VA

History: Before serving as the 20-bed Fauquier County Hospital in 1925, an outbuilding on this property housed the law office of John Marshall—who later became Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

2. Chilton House

When: Tuesday, October 13, 2026 | 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Where: 97 Culpeper Street, Warrenton, VA

History: Built in 1820, this historic residence changed hands between Union and Confederate forces multiple times during the Civil War. The property still features several original outbuildings, including a summer kitchen, stable, and well.

3. Cast Iron Craft House (Includes Dinner)

When:  Sunday, October 18, 2026 | 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Where: 11 S. Second Street, Warrenton, VA

History: Built in the early 1900s, this site once served as View Tree Lodge #142 of the Prince Hall Masons and stood as a vital gathering place during segregation. Tickets for this investigation include dinner during the session.

4. John Barton Payne Building

When: Saturday, October 24, 2026 | 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Where: 2 Courthouse Square, Warrenton, VA

History: Constructed in 1924 on land cleared by the Great Warrenton Fire of 1909, this landmark originally housed Warrenton's first public library.

5. Special Halloween Event: Night at the Old Jail

When: Saturday, October 31, 2026 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Where: 10 Ashby Street, Warrenton, VA

Note: This exclusive Halloween night investigation is available specifically for Paranormal Punch Pass holders.

6. Old Jail Museum

When: Saturday, November 7, 2026 | 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Where: 10 Ashby Street, Warrenton, VA

History: Originally built as a four-cell jail in 1808, with a larger stone jail added in 1823, this site operated as a facility until 1966.

7. Private Residence in Old Town Warrenton

When: Saturday, November 14, 2026 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Where: Address provided to registered attendees

History: A rare look inside an 1810 residence built by Dr. James Westwood Wallace, a Revolutionary War physician who treated both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.
