Fall Foliage in Virginia, When will it Peak?

Fall in Virginia, with the expansive woodlands and blue tinged mountains Fall in Virginia is always beautiful.

Virginia is For Lovers Especially in The Fall

At Alls Real Estate, we love to keep our community informed about the beautiful local happenings. As the days get shorter and the air gets crisp, there's nothing more spectacular than the annual display of Virginia's fall foliage. The Commonwealth's diverse landscape offers an extended viewing season, so you have plenty of time to get out and enjoy the vibrant colors.

When to See the Colors πŸ‚

The timing for peak fall foliage in Virginia varies by elevation. The brilliant colors start to emerge in the higher altitudes of the mountains in early to mid-October, and the show moves eastward and to lower elevations, typically peaking in central and coastal areas in late October. So, no matter where you are in the state, there's a perfect window for you to catch the show.

Where to Go for the Best Views 🍁

  • Shenandoah National Park & Skyline Drive: This is arguably the most famous spot to see the fall colors. The 105-mile drive offers breathtaking panoramic views and numerous overlooks where you can stop to take photos and soak it all in.
  • Blue Ridge Parkway: Following the Blue Ridge Mountains, this scenic drive is a must-do for any fall enthusiast. The higher elevations will peak earlier, so it's a great spot to visit in early to mid-October.
  • Great Falls Park: For those closer to Northern Virginia, Great Falls Park offers a stunning combination of cascading waterfalls and fiery autumn leaves, making for a perfect day trip or hike.
  • Virginia State Parks: Many of Virginia's state parks, from High Bridge Trail to First Landing, provide fantastic opportunities for hiking and exploring. You can find unique views of the foliage from the many trails and scenic overlooks.

Whether you prefer a scenic drive, a challenging hike, or a simple stroll through a local park, Virginia's fall foliage offers a perfect backdrop for enjoying the season with family and friends. We hope you get out and explore all the natural beauty our state has to offer!
