Summer Fun at C.M. Crockett Park: Your June Guide to Midland’s Gem
At Alls Real Estate, we believe that finding the perfect home is about more than just four walls—it’s about the community and the lifestyle that surrounds it. As the temperatures climb and the school year winds down, there is no better place to experience the beauty of Fauquier County than C.M. Crockett Park in Midland.
Crockett Park is the county’s largest lakeside park, and June is arguably the best time to visit. Whether you are a long-time resident or looking to move into the area, here is your guide to making the most of the park this month.
1. Get Out on Germantown Lake
The centerpiece of the park is the stunning 109-acre Germantown Lake. In June, the water is inviting and the views are lush.
- Boat Rentals: The rental season is in full swing! You can grab a jon-boat (with a trolling motor or oars), a pedal boat, a kayak, or a canoe. Rentals are available every weekend from 7:00 AM until dusk.
- Fishing: June is a prime month for largemouth bass. Remember, there is a limit of five bass per day, and anyone 16 or older will need a Virginia state fishing license (which you can conveniently purchase right at the park’s concession stand).
2. Explore the Trails
If you prefer to stay on dry land, Crockett Park offers miles of scenic paths.
- Nature Trail: Take a shaded stroll through a one-mile wooded loop—perfect for escaping the midday June sun.
- Cross-Country Trail: For those looking for a bit more of a workout, the park features a cross-country trail ideal for jogging or a brisk hike.
3. Family Gatherings & Picnics
June is the peak of "cookout season." Crockett Park is the ultimate destination for Father’s Day celebrations or end-of-school-year parties.
- Shelter Rentals: The park offers multiple picnic shelters that can be reserved for larger groups.
- Recreation: After your meal, challenge your friends to a game of volleyball, horseshoes, or cornhole (soft horseshoes). There is also a great playground for the kids to burn off some energy.
4. Try Something New: Orienteering & Archery
Looking for a unique challenge?
- Orienteering: The park features both beginner and advanced orienteering courses. It’s a fantastic way to sharpen your navigation skills while exploring the terrain. Maps are available at the park office.
- Archery Adventure: Keep an eye on the Fauquier County Parks and Rec calendar for the "Crockett Park Archery Adventure." Registration often opens in late spring/early summer for these specialized programs!
5. Visit "The Sanctuary"
For a quieter afternoon, take a walk through Sanctuary: A Commemorative Grove. This gallery of indigenous trees—including Maples, Beeches, and Oaks—is a peaceful place to reflect and enjoy the local flora of Northern Virginia.
